ABOUT

Department of Information Technology

Department of Information Technology offers B.Tech. (Information Technology) programme under the Autonomous Status conferred to the institute by the UGC and the University of Mumbai since Academic Year 2021-22. The department offered B.E. (Information Technology) since Academic Year 2001-02 to 2020-21 and has facilitated graduation of more than 1000 students by now.

Department of Information Technology empowers its students to become the technological leaders of tomorrow by imparting quality education and knowledge of cutting-edge Information Technology. The department enormously encourages research and innovative projects for application areas like healthcare, societal contribution, automation, agriculture, security and surveillance, etc. using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, etc. The department has strong tie-ups with various industries to provide students an exposure to the environment they will become part of and make them industry-ready. Also, the department has an excellent record in both academics and placements. Emphasis is laid on hands-on aspects through laboratories, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to help students explore interests and create a broader perspective, build higher self-esteem and learn essential life skills. Students of the department actively participate and win prizes in various project competitions, hackathons, paper presentations, etc.

With the autonomy, the Department of Information Technology offers state-of-the-art curriculum that not only meets the demands on the industry, but imparts skills equivalent to that possessed by an experienced professional. The curriculum has been designed by all the members of the Board of Studies in Information Technology, subject-expert faculty members from other departments of the institute, external experts from academia, experienced professionals from IT companies, as well as the alumni working in IT companies across India and abroad.

Mission of Department of Information Technology
  • Graduates will be able to apply knowledge of engineering fundamentals and cutting edge Information Technology to identify and implement innovative solutions for engineering problems and issues in society.
  • Graduates will be able to exhibit their employability skills and practice the ethics of their profession with a sense of social responsibility.
  • Graduates will have strong interpersonal skills and will engage in life-long learning to enhance their career positions, both as team members and leaders.

  • To produce industry ready engineers by imparting quality education and enhancing their proficiency with strong engineering foundation and in-depth knowledge of Information Technology.

Program Outcomes (POs) : B.Tech. (Information Technology)
  • PO1 - Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO2 - Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO3 - Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO4 - Conduct investigations of complex problems:Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO5 - Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO6 - The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • PO7 - Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • PO8 - Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • PO9 - Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • PO10 - Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • PO11 - Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  • PO12 - Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
